Strawberry picking…

The first rays of sunshine are peaking through the clouds and temperatures are finally back in the double digits. What better way to celebrate than go pick some of the first strawberries of the season?

Those of you that subscribed to our newsletter (hint, hint) had the chance of joining us and the Sunny Hiker Group last Saturday to the strawberry fields in Daxu. If you missed the tour or had to work, here are some photos:

Cheese in Guilin

One of the few things that are really difficult to get in Guilin at a reasonable price is cheese. Not the plastic cheese sold in NikoNiko but real Cheese (capital “c”). In the past we ordered quite frequently from Cheese in China* guys (link).

Instead of ordering from their website and biting your fingernails waiting for the packet you can buy it directly in Guilin now: Send a mail to Scott at scott [at] ezymail.us or call him at 13263731627.

*Yellow Valley Cheeses are hand-made Dutch Gouda farmhouse cheeses produced in China. We are the first company to make Gouda cheeses in an artisanal and natural (organic) way. Expatriates and Chinese cheese lovers all over this great country testify that Yellow Valley cheeses are superior to any imported Gouda cheese. Why? Yellow Valley cheeses are fresh and most importantly: Yellow Valley cheeses do not contain any artificial ingredients.

Sharon’s Saturday Party Photos

Here are the photos of last Saturdays Party in Sharon’s Restaurant. This time we were a pretty small group, which was not too surprising, as most of the teachers and students are on summer vacation. Nevertheless we still had a lot of fun.

Here are the photos (If you have any more photos to contribute please send them to service [at] guilinexpat.com):

Yumi’s latest culinary creation

For all of you who like their toasts a bit more “well-done”:

Yumi Cafe in Can Luan Road offers now Bamboo Charcoal Toast Bread. Black as the night and with an eerie taste, certainly nothing for the average white-bread munching expat.

So when you are in the San Li Dian Area and crazy brave enough to try it, better get a loaf before they drop it out of their shelves again.

Hello Guilin Expat!

Here are a couple of photos taken at the last ‘Sharon’s Saturday Party’. What great food and fun company!
Sharon was even kind enough to set up a shelf in her restaurant to be used as a lending library for books, DVDs and CDs one might be finished with.

Looking forward to the next one!

Guilin Rice Noodle Festival

Guilin Rice NoodlesOur all favorite breakfast dish will be celebrated at the 3rd Annual Guilin Rice Noodle Festival from April 28th to May 3rd in Xing’An. The topic this year is “Enjoy Xing’An’s Landscape & eat Guilin Rice Noodles”.

The Rice Noodle Festival was first held in 2007 to promote tourism Guilin Rice Noodlesin the region and bring the charm of the region to locals and international tourists alike. This year the event will include a range of Rice Noodle-themed activities like a press conference and fashion show in Guilin to kick off the event (April 28th), the official opening ceremony with theatrical performance on “Ginko Plaza” and different other daily activities like folk song & lion dance competitions.

Of course there will be enough chance to try the noodles itself and get a decent pint of beer to flush them down. Next to the actual event there will be bus tours to tourist attractions in the vicinity. The closing ceremony will be held on “Ginko Plaza” on the 3rd May.

Apologies for the quality of the first two photos on the right. They have been taken in the twilight of a mifen-den.
