PSB and RRO open Foreigner Liaison Office

There are not too many Expats living in Guilin. But a big part of them lives in Seven Star Garden.

To strengthen the service for the foreign citizens the Public Security Bureau and the Residents Registration Office of Guilin established a convenient opportunity there for consulting.

An Office was opened in Seven Star Garden during a small gathering and ceremony last saturday. It was a good opportunity to become acquainted with the officers of these two offices as well as with the foreigners living here.

In that way I think it was a shame that so many of the Expats living in Seven Star Garden did not follow their personal invitation to that event.

Vamos a la playa…

This year bathing season has started. Like every year in June the crowds are going to the Li-River and the traders are trying to make a buck by selling swimming supplies.

Here some pictures:

Funny Food Advertisements

Last Friday, after a nice cold beer in Sharons, we discovered a new chang fen shop on our way home. While the Chang Fen itself were ok only, the restaurant had some quite interesting posters on the wall.

Who would have thunk that “sex sells” also works for roast duck? Without further comments, the photos:

Restaurant Test: Fuji ChangFen

Guilin Restaurants, Fuji Changfen Zhou
Today we went to “Fuji Changfen Zhou”, belonging to the Guilin Good Luck Restaurant (which again belongs to our Chinese Fast Food Overlords “Guilinren”).

It is located quite convenient on the walking street between the Clock Tower and the Paulaner Biergarden. Our first impression is a pretty good one: No waitresses in front trying to get you in and the menu with prices is hanging on the wall. No trying to rip you off with a “foreigner menu” like Soup Town and many others like to do.
Guilin Food, Chang Fen
The furnishing is simple and functional, but by no means cheap looking. The kitchen is separated from the restaurant by some glass windows, so you can actually watch the staff prepare your food.

Back to the food. We had to order and pay directly after entering the restaurant. We (3 people) decided for:

Guilin Porridge
Pork Chang Fen: RMB 7
Beef Chang Fen: RMB 5
Egg Chang Fen: RMB 3
Shrimp Chang Fen: RMB 8
Porridge: RMB 4

The food arrived pretty quickly. The Chang Fen were ok in taste but the Shrimp ones were a bit low on Shrimps, while the Pork ones somehow got an extra topping of salt. The porridge was good. Our favorite were definitely the Beef Chang Fen.

All together a nice little fast food restaurant, good when you need a snack, but nothing for when you are really hungry.
