Solitary Beauty Peak

Solitary Beauty PeakSolitary Beauty Peak, or Duxiu Feng as the Chinese call it is situated right in the center of Guilin JingJiang Prince city, which is located in the heart of Guilin itself.

The peak is about 66 meter high and composed of limestone. There is a cave on the east foot of the cave called Dushu Cave. It is said that the Governor of Guilin during the Souther Dynasty (420-589) used to study here. The saying that nothing can surpass this solitary peak in beauty, after which the peak is named is also ascribed to him. Another cave is Taiping cave with a size of about 140 square meter and stalagtites hanging from the roof and Snow Cave which is, as the name suggests, white.

To reach the Solitary Beauty Pavillon on top of the peak it is neccessary to climb more than 396 stone-steps. The pavillon itself is supported by 7 red pillars and has 2 floors. From here you have, if the weather is good, a great view over the Prince City, Guilin and the nearby Li River.

Back down at the foot of the mountain lies Crescent Pond (Yuaya Pond) which has been named after its shape. On the bank of the pond a tower has been erected in 1921 in honour of Dr. Sun Yat-sen who had his headquarters here during his "Northern Campaign".
